Faculty of Engineering Technology
In higher education as a whole and in the field of science and technology in particular, it is of vital importance to organize up-to-date laboratory practices for the students and to teach them how to acquire new skills and competences. This involves problem based learning and the use of the computer in the laboratory as a Virtual Measurement Instrument.
The project "VME" is an international joint curriculum development project, set up by KHBO and its international partners. The intention of the cooperation is to accelerate the evolution in laboratory practices via Open and Distance Learning and to exchange the existing knowledge and experience at the different locations.
This three-year-project of curriculum development will focus on:
- (a) the introduction of students to new scientific and technological developments,
- (b) the knowledge of how to build a laboratory measurement system,
- (c) how the outcomes of the measurements need to be properly interpreted, and finally
- (d) how they need to be submitted for validation.
Open and Distance Learning and e-learning are also applied for the counseling and evaluation of the enrolled students.
During the project, each partner uses a simular methodology to develop one learning module in a specific domain. These modules will be available for all students of the participating institutes, via the learning platform of the co-ordinating institution Katholieke Hogeschool Brugge-Oostende. The modules will cover several specific subjects and will focus on the comparative aspects of elements related to the content of the disciplines at the co-operating institutions.
